This photo was taken at the National Arboretum. Yes a national tree place. It really is a gigantic space set aside for trees and plants. The pillars you see come from the Capital, they were removed when an expansion was done.
If a place has water Shai will find it and get in it!
Based on my friend Pam's suggestion we made it to the Einstein Monument. It is a hidden monument that you would never find just walking by. You have to know it is there and you have to look for it. The happy go lucky pose that he has taken in this monument is fantastic and so inviting. This monument has more than meets the eye. If you get the paperwork on location you find out that the base is actually a map of the night sky. It was so cool to discover this hidden secret.
This is the Air Force Memorial. You can see the silver streams going up from DC, but this monument is actually across the Potomic River. It looks over Arlington Cemetery. We went to Arlington in December and it was an emotional place.
This photo of Shai shows the Mall in the background from the Air Force Monument hill. On our way up here we saw the President's helicopters fly over. That was pretty cool! There was also a bike race going on this day so we got to see some men ride up and then right back down the hill. The tents in the background were for the bikers and their crews.
We had a fantastic time in DC!! This time we were more independent and loved that aspect. It was also great to see so many new things. We did not repeat much of what we had done before so it was certainly a successful trip. I am sure we will go back again. There are things we still have not seen and museums we just could not finish getting through in one day. Our thanks to Mark and Adam for their hospitality and support on our journey. (And for having a camera when we left ours behind!) We love and miss you both.
